Pro licensing is one licence per person · 5 Macs included · not for sharing. Free pairs two Macs; pairing beyond that is a Pro feature. Separately, licence activations cap how many Macs may run Pro on one licence: each Mac you use Pro on takes one seat.
Everything below happens in Settings → Licence.
Before you start
- Keep the licence key from your purchase email at hand.
- Your Mac ID (the first eight characters of this Mac’s licence identity) is under This Mac at the bottom of the pane. Copy it if support asks for it.
- During the 14-day trial the pane shows Free trial and the days left. You can enter a key at any point under Already have a key?; the trial simply ends early.
Activate a Mac
- Open Settings → Licence.
- Paste your licence key into the key field.
- Choose Activate this Mac.
Continuo contacts usecontinuo.app to check the key and register this Mac. The
pane then shows Continuo Pro · Active, Lifetime licence with the last
four characters of the key, and Macs on this licence with how many of the five seats are used.
If all five seats are in use, this Mac is not activated. Free one first (see Free a seat below), then choose Activate this Mac again.
Reinstalled on the same Mac
Paste the same key and choose Activate this Mac. A Mac that was activated before gets its own seat back, at no extra charge: it is recognised by its Mac ID and does not take a new seat. This holds after reinstalling Continuo or macOS on the same physical Mac.
Free a seat
Macs on this licence lists every Mac activated on your key, with when it was added.
- On the Mac you are leaving: choose Deactivate on the row marked This Mac, then confirm Remove when asked Remove this Mac from your licence? Pro turns off there and the seat goes back to your licence. You can activate it again later with the same key.
- From another Mac: choose Remove on that Mac’s row and confirm. Pro turns off on that Mac, and nobody sitting at it is asked first, so use this for a Mac you no longer have.
Change key
When Pro is active, Change key beside the licence opens the key field again, to enter a different key.
Offline use
Continuo checks your licence with the server from time to time and keeps a signed copy, so Pro keeps working for up to 7 days without a connection.
If it cannot check for longer than that, the pane shows Licence needs refresh and Pro features pause until it can. Nothing is lost: reconnect and choose Refresh. That face of the pane also has a Forget this licence row: its Remove button, after a confirmation, clears the stored key from this Mac and gives its seat back.
Updates
Your licence does not expire. The pane shows Free updates with the date new builds are included through. Within 30 days of that date, and after it, it offers Renew updates for another year of new builds; without it, the version you have keeps working with every Pro feature. See Free vs Pro.
Customer portal
Use Manage licence or Customer portal in the site footer for order lookup and receipts. To extend the optional update feed, see /license-renew.
The portal also lists your activated Macs, but it is not how you move a seat: a Mac freed there takes its seat back the next time that Mac checks in, if a seat is free. Use Deactivate on the Mac itself, or Remove in Macs on this licence on another Mac, and the seat stays free.
Pro purchase goes through Polar in the browser; the app never sends payment data.
